Cross-sections of a Heart with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy
The muscle tissue in the HCM heart is much thicker and firmer than normal. There are multiple areas of white scarring, which is dead tissue, caused by the inability of the heart to get enough blood to the oversized muscle tissue.
