| Lung with emphysema. Notice the numerous large bulges apparent on the surface of the lungs. Emphysema destroys the walls of the alveoli (air sacs) in the lung. Eventually, the alveoli lose the elasticity to spring back to shape, impairing the outflow of air when a person exhales. |
