What is venous insufficiency?

Venous insufficiency occurs when the veins in a patient's legs are unable to pump blood back to the heart.

 

What clinical findings (signs, symptoms, and test results) indicate venous insufficiency?
  • Swollen ankles and/or legs (edema)
  • Aching leg muscles
  • Heaviness in legs
