As we’ve said before, our committee is interested in dealing with technologies involving genetics and genetic manipulations now as well as in the future. Now that we’ve heard the about specific applications of biotechnology in animals, plants, and humans we are ready to step back from the situation and consider the broader issue of genetic modification at a higher level.
For your final presentation, please discuss ways we can deal with future situations involving genetic technologies and what factors we should consider in order to deal with future situations in a responsible manner. Please include any recommendations you have regarding whether genetic manipulation can be addressed generally or if it is handled better on case by case basis. If you do recommend we address these issues on a case by case please discuss any key determinants we can use to make those decisions ourselves. Any other aspects that you feel the committee should know about are also welcome. Use examples from the cases you’ve already presented on when possible to illustrate your points.
There will be a question and answer session after the presentation, but there will be no debate.
