Cerebrovascular Abnormality
 
What is a vascular abnormality?
A cerebral aneurysm is a weak part of a blood vessel in the brain that fills with blood. A saccular or berry aneurysm is the most common form, and is typically found on arteries at the base of the brain. Click here for more information.

 

What clinical findings (signs, symptoms, and test results) indicate vascular abnormality?

Prior to hemmorhage, the symptoms may include:

  • Pain above and behind the eye
  • Unilateral facial paralysis
  • Vision changes

After hemorrhage, the symptoms can include:

The diagnosis can be confirmed through use of a computed tomography (CT) scan and/or MRI of the head.

A spinal tap/LP cannot be performed safely with this condition.

 

Treatment Options

When this diagnosis is confirmed, surgery is performed to staple the vein within the brain.
