Sports Medic
Introduction

In this rotation, you will assume the role of an intern at Lakeshore Hospital, working toward a specialization in the sports medicine field.  You will work through a series of four cases involving teenage patients who visit the hospital after sustaining sports-related injuries. In addition to your case work, you'll also have two tasks in which you'll be asked to provide information to people and organizations outside of the hospital on sports-related issues.

What is an intern?
An intern is a first-year doctor who has completed medical school; interns are closely supervised by more senior doctors (residents and attendings).

What will I do during this rotation?
By playing the role of an intern, you will get an introduction to doctoring skills in the sports medicine field, from initial interviewing and examination through diagnosis and treatment.  You will practice diagnosis and treatment of sports injuries as you learn and apply relevant science topics, such as anatomy, physiology, physics, and biomechanics.  In addition, you will learn about common sports injuries and conditions and the best ways to deal with them when they occur.  Finally, you will explore some issues in professional ethics and responsible practice that doctors in sports medicine often face.

I’m no doctor! How will I be able to figure out how to diagnose the patients?
This rotation provides many resources, including step-by-step guides, to help you think through the problem you are solving one step at a time. In addition, like many interns, you’ll be working with other interns, so you will be able to bounce ideas off your teammates, and give and receive feedback from them. In addition, a mentor will be available to help you when you have questions, and will give you feedback on your work.
