Business of Healthcare
Introduction

Welcome!
In this rotation you will play a junior consultant at WJL Consulting, a healthcare-consulting firm. Woodland Ridge Hospital is considering making a major capital investment and has hired your firm to advise them about which of four proposals they should implement. You will conduct a detailed financial analysis and ultimately recommend one option to the Board of Directors.

What is a consultant?
A consultant is a professional who is hired to advise a company. Consultants have varied backgrounds, so they can help companies in lots of different ways. Healthcare consultants may work with hospitals, employers, or even the government, counseling them on healthcare related decisions.

What will I do during this rotation?
During this rotation, you’ll get a chance to take on one of the jobs a healthcare consultant might perform – counsel your client on which investment option is best for them. Your most important job will be to conduct a financial analysis and learn how to compare options against one another and the goals of the client.

I’m no consultant! How will I know what to do?
This rotation will provide many resources, including step-by-step guides to help you think through the problems you are solving one step at a time. You’ll be working on a team, so you can bounce ideas off your teammates, and give and receive feedback from them. In addition, a mentor will be available to help you when you have questions, and will give your feedback on your work.

How do I get started?
Simply click on Task 1: Project Introduction in the left menu. You will see your supervisor’s first email, describing what she would like you to do. Once you’ve read this email, you can look at the first Get Help section of the task for a step-by-step guide and other resources to help you do your work.
