Well I think the kick-off meeting was a success. We certainly heard lots of varying opinions, but overall I think we got what we needed to out of the meeting.
Recap
I’ve reviewed your work and wanted to give you a sense of the priorities I heard. Not surprisingly, Woodland Ridge’s number one goal is to make a profit. However, the necessity of making the Joint Commission’s required upgrades was important as well. Finally, they want to set themselves apart from other area hospitals by specializing in something or being seen as especially “cutting edge.” So we need to recommend an option that helps them meet all three goals.
Demand
Another important issue that came up during the meeting was the idea of demand. Before making a big investment like this, the hospital wants to know that there is a demand for it in their community. If they put in a new dialysis unit, for example, are there enough dialysis patients in the local area to make it worth spending the money?
Because it is something that will happen in the future, demand is not something we can say with certainty. Instead we’ll need to project the number of people we believe will take advantage of each new service. Based on input from experts, we can project or approximate the number of people we think will use a new service at Woodland Ridge hospital.
I’d like to start by looking at demand for each of the four investment proposals. I’ll send you another email with more specific instructions shortly!
Thanks,
Abby
