Reflection Questions

Working individually, write a thoughtful response (about a page each) to each of the following questions. Once you have completed each question, submit this reflection assignment to your mentor. (For the purposes of this reflection assignment you should consider your work in Tasks 1 and 2. Don’t worry about Ethics 1 for now.)

  1. Think about the process you used to create a differential diagnosis and confirm it. Did following a systematic process help you? Did it lead to a better outcome? What problems might arise from not following a systematic process?

  2. Imagine you are an attending, giving advice to a new resident on how to arrive at diagnosis for a patient who has just arrived at a walk-in clinic. What advice do you have for this new resident, e.g., What is hard about the process? What mistakes should the doctor be sure to avoid? (Think about the steps you used in the differential diagnosis process.)

  3. Now that you have worked through the process of diagnosing a patient has it changed your perception of what doctors do? If so, how? Why or why not?
