I have great news! Two people have contacted the hospital to volunteer to be live donors for Mr. McGrath. One is a middle-aged female neighbor, and the other is the patient’s 35-year old nephew.
As is customary when assessing potential candidates for a live organ donor operation, I ordered a complete physical and psychological exam of both candidates, done by an independent internist and psychiatrist. I asked the doctors to review medical, psychological, and situational factors for both candidates, and I’ve attached their reports to this email.
Next Steps
Take a look at each of the reports and see what you think. Is either of volunteer a good candidate for a living-donor transplant? I’d like you to write a summary of your analysis and a justification for which, if either, donor you would chose for Mr. McGrath. In your report be sure to consider the following:
- Are there any physical, psychological, and/or situational conditions that would make you decline to accept either candidate as a donor? Please explain.
- Why do you think either potential donor is a good candidate for the living-donor liver transplant procedure (assuming you do think one or both is suitable)?
I have attached the Donor Evaluation Report Template to help you organize your final report. Once I recieve your report, the entire transplant team will work together to determine the best candidate for Mr. McGrath's donor.
