Reflection Questions

Working individually, write a thoughtful response (about a page) to the following questions. Once you have completed the questions, submit this reflection assignment to your mentor.

  1. Do you think you made the right decision regarding giving Mr. McGrath a transplant? Under what circumstances would you have made a different decision? How would you have felt if you had to tell a patient they had been turned down for a transplant?

  2. Did you learn anything during this rotation that will help you be a better patient? Now that you have a better understanding about what doctors so and how they think, did it change your view of the role the patient plays in his/her own diagnosis and treatment?

  3. Many doctors work alone. Are there advantages to working in a team? Are there disadvantages?

  4. During this rotation you have learned how to diagnose and treat a problem. Diagnostic skills have application outside of the medical field. Consider the following. You are heading to school one morning, but your car won't start. How could you use the diagnosis process to help you solve this problem?

  5. How do you feel about the process used to decide who gets an organ for transplant? Do you think it is fair? What factors would you use to decide how to allocate organs if it were solely your decision?

  6. During this rotation you have worked on ethical decision making. Do you feel that you have learned skills to hlep you make the ethical decisions you face in your day-to-day life? Please explain.
