Outbreak
Your Role

In this rotation, you will play the role of an intern epidemiologist working at the National Disease Control Center. You will report to Dr. Samuel Lyons, Medical Epidemiologist. Dr. Lyons requested your assistance to help with an investigation of a possible outbreak of coccidioidomycosis. The investigation will go through the process of the scientific method: making observations, generating hypotheses, designing ways to test the hypotheses, and evaluating the data to determine what the source of the outbreak might be. During the process you will also need to coordinate communication with outside entities to help ensure public safety. Work with your teammates to complete the assignments you receive via email from Dr. Lyons.

In addition, part of your work includes working as part of the NDCC Statistics Group. Cecilia Young, the director of the group, will contact you periodically with questions other epidemiologists at the NDCC have about statistical concepts. Your job will be to answer their questions so that they may continue their investigations and complete their reports.
