Loss of Sensation
 
What is loss of sensation?

Sensation is the ability to detect something coming in contact with the skin.  Loss of sensation, which can be local to a particular part of the body, is the loss of this ability.

 

How do you know someone has loss of sensation?

A full physical examination can reveal loss of sensation.  The physician tests the patient’s response to a stimulus, such as a feather or light pin, in each area of the body.
