What is hematocrit?

Hematocrit is a blood test trying to find out what percent of the total blood is formed elements (mostly red blood cells) vs fluid. The normal crit would be 45 – that expresses the formed element percentage, which tells you that 55% of the blood is fluid.

What does it mean to have abnormal hematocrit?
