What is a TB skin test?
A TB skin test doesn't collect a sample from the patient, but instead doctors inject material obtained from the bacteria that causes tuberculosis into the skin. The material used is called PPD (purified protein derivative). Results can be read after 48 or 72 hours after the injection is given.
