Instructions
: Independently, provide brief answers to the following questions. When you are finished, submit your answers to your mentor for review. Then your mentor will select a few of the questions from the list to bring to a group discussion.

Assessing the Client’s Needs and Risks:

  1. Did it feel different to assess a real person? Can you characterize any differences you felt in assessing a peer?

  2. Now that you’ve assessed someone in person, was it a challenge to determine whether their dietary or behavioral practices were excessive, a phase, a serious psychological issue, or simply within the normal range?

    • Is there something you would like to do to follow-up (i.e. make a referral)?

    • Is thinking about these issues for a peer difficult for you and why?
  1. When conducting client assessments, one should look to determine whether they fall within the normal range given various factors about their physical state, such as weight, height, BMI, etc. If someone falls slightly outside the “normal range,” at what point should you be concerned? Why?

The Healthy Eating Guide:

  1. Keeping in mind that people tend to have different influences on their eating choices, and those influences may prevent them from following diet recommendations, what are some things you did to increase the odds of your client following your Healthy Eating Guide?

  2. In this task, you are not given the opportunity to have a follow up meeting with your client. However, were you to do that, what would you want to ask him/her in order to determine what kind of education and maybe modifications would better help him/her adhere to your Healthy Eating Guide?

  3. How would you expect a client to use a Healthy Eating Guide in conjunction with a nutritional plan? What would you recommend to your client in regards to using them together?

  4. When you created the Healthy Eating Guide for you client, what reflections did you have on your own eating? If you were to create a Healthy Eating Guide for yourself, how might it differ from the one you created for your client?
