Brian’s test results are back. Based on your input and our experience with other patients like Brian, Dr. Shah and I ordered an x-ray of Brian's skull, an x-ray of Brian's spine, and a CT scan. Dr. Shah and I want you to interpret the test results, revise your differential based on those test results, and then suggest which of the diagnoses on your differential is most likely. Essentially, you must answer the question “What caused Brian's temporary loss of consciousness and temporary inability to use or walk on his left leg?” If you feel that we cannot yet make a diagnosis with enough confidence without ordering additional tests, then indicate that in your interpretation. We can then determine if we should order additional tests before moving forward with treatment.
The diagnosis you determine will dictate Brian’s treatment.
Analysis and Diagnosis
Please carefully examine the test results. Then, make the changes to your differential based upon any new clinical findings the test results provide. You may find you need to shuffle the order of the diagnoses or that your original assessment only needs minor modifications based on the test results. Either is fine, but you must be sure to write clear rationales for any new findings. Finally, determine what your working diagnosis will be for this patient.
Please use the differential diagnosis template you are already working on for this patient. I’ll check in with you after you have arrived at a working diagnosis.
